Larry F. Thomas is currently employed part-time by G. Stephens, Inc. as a Contract Compliance Coordinator. He retired from the City of Akron, Bureau of Engineering serving 31 years and has held the positions of Engineering Technician and retiring as Equal Employment Officer with supervision and responsibility for the clerical operation of the Bureau of Engineering. The responsibility included assignment of typing, filing, maintenance of engineering record systems, payroll preparation, accounts payable, accounts receivable, construction contract preparation, and bidding process for those contracts.

Larry also works part-time during the tax filing season dba Thomas Tax Service of Ohio. He has been a tax preparation specialist since 2008.


Larry was born and raised in Akron, Ohio and was a 1970 Archbishop Hoban High School graduate. Larry was initiated into Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. through Alpha Tau Chapter at the University of Akron on June 26, 1971. He majored in Mechanical Engineering Technology in which he received his Associate and Bachelor of Science degrees. Larry became a member of Eta Tau Lambda Chapter in 1988 and has since maintained his membership in the chapter. His offices held in Eta Tau Lambda are as follows, Treasurer 1996 – 2000, Vice President 2000 – 2002, and President 2002 – 2004. Larry also served as the Chair of the Fatherhood Initiative Program from 2003 to 2004.

He also served as the Associate Editor-of-the-Sphinx as the chapter webmaster. Larry continues to serve as the secretary of Alpha Phi Alpha Homes, Inc., which he has done since 2003. He also holds the same position as secretary with the Alpha Phi Alpha Foundation of Akron since 2003.

Larry lives in Barberton with his wife Barbara. His church home is The House of the Lord. His interests are computers, website development, woodworking, home improvement projects, golfing, and amateur radio among many other activities.
