Tiretown Golf Club was established in 1950 in Akron, Ohio.  The club was organized for the purpose of providing an environment where people of Color could learn and play the game of Golf.

For years, Tiretown was a member of the Midwest Golf Association, an organization of like-minded golf clubs throughout the country.  Through this affiliation Tiretown Golf Club gained the reputation for being one of the top golf clubs in America.  Our Annual Scholarship Tournament, originally a three-day event that included a two-day tournament was renowned nationally and attracted golfers from all over the country.

The Civil Rights Movement during the 1960's and 1970's tore down barriers that prevented people of color from playing golf at public golf courses.  What emerged was an even greater commitment by Tiretown to the youth of our community.

From the very beginning , Tiretown established a connection with the youth in our community.  During the first year of our existence, a Junior Golf Program, Associate Memberships for youth and a scholarship program were established.

Today, Tiretown Golf Club has continued the tradition of commitment to our youth.  We have expanded our scholarship programs, increased our contributions to other organizations and provide scholarships for youngsters to participate in the First Tee of Akron Program.

Our greatest legacy is the hundreds of youngsters in the Akron Community that have been served by Tiretown Golf Club.
