2020 9-Hole Scholarship Tournament

Nearly 70 golfers participated in the Tiretown Golf Club inaugural 9-hole scholarship/charity tournament on Saturday, Sept. 12, 2020, at Mud Run Golf Course in Akron. Our members, with support from various donors and sponsors, made the event a success.

Our organization, which earlier this summer cancelled its 70th annual scholarship event because of Covid-19, raised more than $8,000 for Tiretown Golf Charities.

The event included the recognition of Tiretown’s Henry Mumford Distinguished Service Award winners – Syreeta Stewart, Ted DuBose and Jonathan Thornton. Also, scholarship committee chairman Dave Brown acknowledge our scholarship recipients, including Maceo Dingle and Monique Denefield, who were in attendance.

The team of Clarence Mitchell, Clarence Mitchell, III and Tony Bishop captured the team title with a 6-under, 28 score. Willie McCall, assistant director of golf activities, presented club champions: Ralph N. Paulk (Low Gross), Tim Ramsey (Low Net), Terry Felton (Flight A), Jim Sauter (Flight B) and Jonathan Thornton (Flight C).
